Celebrate the Urban Wilderness

Everyone is invited to the "Celebrate the Urban Wilderness" event. Tuesday, April 19 at Ijams Nature Center. Refreshments will be served at 6 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Charles Sims, Faculty Fellow at the Howard Baker Center for Public Policy, will present a recap of his research about the economic impact of the Urban Wilderness trail system. In his study, he notes, “Few cities outside the Rocky Mountain region have trail systems or bike parks within 10 miles of downtown with as many trail miles as the Urban Wilderness. This proximity to retail, entertainment, and lodging implies a greater potential economic impact compared to most other trail systems situated in rural areas.”

After Dr. Sims gives us a little more info on his research, there will be a discussion panel of speakers for a Question and Answer session. This will include: Dr. Sims, Matthew Kellogg of the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club, Carol Evans of Legacy Parks, Debbie Sharp of TREK South, Molly Gilbert of Molly Gilbert Marketing, and Paul James of Ijams Nature Center.

A special thanks to Ijams Nature Center for hosting this event! Co-sponsered by the South Knoxville Alliance (http://southknoxvillealliance.org/) and the South Knoxville Neighborhood and Business Coalition (www.sknbc.org).
